Prices & offers

How much does a personal tax return cost in Ottawa?

At The Counting Press, a simple single return starts at $100–$150. Simple family returns start at $150–$300, and complex returns (for example with rental or business income) start at $150–$300 per person. See what each package includes.

What is the 50/50 offer?

New clients pay 50% of what their previous accounting or tax firm charged them for last year's personal tax return. The other half stays in your pocket. The offer ends April 30, 2027. Claim 50/50.

Who qualifies for 50/50?

The offer is for new clients of The Counting Press and applies to personal (individual) income tax return preparation. Your price is based on the invoice or receipt from your previous firm for last year's personal return.

How does the referral program work?

Refer a friend, family member or colleague. Once they complete and pay for their tax return with us, you receive a reward. Rewards are vouchers, plus discounts at higher levels, redeemable toward future tax preparation or other eligible services. See the rewards.

Filing your taxes

When is the tax filing deadline?

For most people, the deadline to file and pay is April 30. If you or your spouse or common-law partner are self-employed, you have until June 15 to file, but any balance owing is still due April 30. For the 2026 tax year, that means April 30, 2027 and June 15, 2027. When a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day.

What documents do I need for my tax return?

Bring your tax slips (such as T4, T4A, T5 and T4E), RRSP contribution receipts, rent receipts or your property tax bill, medical, childcare and donation receipts, tuition slips (T2202) and last year's Notice of Assessment. If you have rental or business income, bring your income and expense records. See the full checklist.

Do I need to file a tax return if I had no income?

If you want to receive benefit and credit payments, yes. The CRA uses your return to calculate payments such as the GST/HST credit and the Canada Child Benefit, and says you and your spouse or common-law partner need to file on time every year, even if you have no income.
